JULY 2018 OBSESSION

July is over! Best time of year because we’re entering my birthday month! It won’t keep me from giving you all the things I love, including my July obsession. 3…2…1…

Guys. To be honest, my skin gets irritated (I’m talking full body here) all year but mostly in these summer. The cause: SWEAT. I like to stay active so working out is part of my weekly schedule in some way or form. The issue is the dash home from the studio on the train. The subway during the summer in NYC can feel like pure hell and my skin gets very angry.
Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash has helped calm down this irritation. This is actually my first month trying it out and it’s been a great help with irritation along my chest and back, caused by the heat and humidity.
If you suffer from heat rash or skin irritations like the one I mentioned check with your dermatologist for the best option. For me, this is perfect!

MAY 2018 OBSESSION

Where does the time go? Zipping by. I just came back from a quick trip to D.C. Visited The National Museum of African American History and Culture. O.M.G. It was amazing! While there I realized that I was using an obsession. Now’s the perfect time to share!

Do you suffer from dry skin? I do. Worst in the Winter but even hits me in the Summer ironically. Vitamin E oil is changing my skin, friends. It’s fat-soluble antioxidant that is essential for the maintenance of healthy skin.
I have one in the bathroom cabinet, one in my shower, and one at work! Obsessed of course! I think the way I love to use it most is while my skin is still wet after a shower. It seeps in nicely and lasts for most of the day. In the winter I might double up with a cream once I’m out the shower but during these warmer months, it’s perfect! The best part is, it doesn’t break the bank. I get mine from Trader Joes. Don’t you just love TRADER JOES!

Listen! Get on it. I’m telling you!

MARCH 2018 OBSESSION

The year is moving along so quickly, isn’t it? Spring is here despite all the snow lol. Of course I have a monthly obsession for March. You’ll like it, I already know!

The Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Milk is so dope! Super lightweight formula. It’s milky which is a nice change from my foamy cleansers. With sensitive skin it’s great to have because it never feels like I’m stripping too much moisture away. I love it! I think you will too!

WHAT’S IN IKA’S MAKEUP BAG?

Hey gorgeous ones! Loyal followers of mine know I have a ton of obsessions. I try to keep you all in the loop of my staples as well as my newbies every month. While I love to be open to new things, I’m quite the creature of habit. The question that I haven’t answered is, “What’s in Ika’s makeup bag?” And guess what, it’s not much!

I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup or I should say heavy makeup. I prefer my everyday look to be lightweight, dewy and chic. But there are some products that are my staples and will always be found in my makeup bag. The list is short, but important.

1. Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm. I. CANNOT. GO. A. DAY. WITHOUT. IT. OK? It’s rare that I’m not wearing this delicious moisturizing blend. It has spf! Hello! It’s the perfect tint (I wear medium to dark) so that I don’t look like the walking dead. And! It gives me the slightest not-trying-too-hard glow. WIN!

2. Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. Lord! This is like crack for my face. When I want to take my makeup up one notch from tinted moisturizer, this is the key! It is exactly like the name, all day, luminous, and weightless. I use so little and receive great impact. With a beauty blender, the finish is flawless. I’m telling you, it’s not leaving the bag!

3. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Crème Highlighter. Don’t even get me started on this touch of highlight. The change this skin perfector makes is solid. Sometimes I feel like the makeup application can stop right here. Drab to Fab in 3 seconds flat.

4. Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater Not only do I set my makeup with this spray of heaven but I also use it as a pick me up during the day when I need a refresher. It’s crazy how the aroma gives me just the right amount of BURST when I’m having the 4pm want-to-be-in-bed moment lol.

5. Aquaphor Lip Repair. Duh! You know I’ve been using this since like, birth. True staple! Wrote about it here.

Those are my mains. Depending on the occasion, I’ll throw in the lip of the day, normally a shade of red or nude. Two simple every day lip shades for me. And when I’m feeling extra jazzy, I might add a blue or green eyeliner only on the bottom lash line. With my lash extensions the bold liner really makes my face pop.

Makeup doesn’t have to be a project. It just has to enhance what you’ve already got!
